P.E.T. Scan March 2017 (P.E.T. Number 8)

Definitely setting unbreakable records this time with Scans. Had the scan but I was unable to get the results prior to the biopsy as there were a large number of Lymphoma specialist worldwide now involved. However I was told that the area to my back had shown up on the scan. I also had a CT N Tap (Another form of CT Scan)

I could properly preform A Positron Emission Tomography scan is a type of imaging test. It uses a radioactive substance called a tracer to look for disease in the body. A positron emission tomography (PET) scan shows how organs and tissues are working. This is different than MRI and CT scans. These tests show the structure of, and blood flow to and from organs.

I arrived at the unit in CUH (Cork University Hospital) with a lot more knowledge of what these Scan’s are.

The procedure starts with a questionnaire about previous test, scans, operations, diagnosis and current medication. They include height and weight so that the radiologist can set the right balance for the injection. Blood sugar levels are then measured to insure that the blood sugar balance is correct, the reason behind this is that the injection has a mixture of radiation and glucose.

PET number 8 and yes it felt like every other PET scan except this one took over two hours.

The results showed multiple sites, new sites, tumors in the right lung, right kidney, and Liver. It was spreading rapidly and aggressively . The Oncolgist had told me when I relapsed that I might not see my next birthday this June and this showed how right he was O.M.G.
